Our history

A leading figure in Swiss packaging for over 30 years

1990's - The beginnings

NOVOPAC SA was founded in 1990 in Fribourg, in the heart of the packaging industry. Its mission was to market standard and printed packaging for the food sector, in particular the bakery-pastry and confectionery trades, which are still at the heart of the business today. With its rapid expansion in the 1990s, NOVOPAC broadened its product range to include new packaging solutions in cardboard, paper and plastic, while consolidating several strategic production partnerships. In 1998, Basel-based REGIA AG acquired NOVOPAC SA and integrated it into its organization.

2000's - The "solutions" strategy

Aware of changes in the market and consumer habits, NOVOPAC has adopted a solution-oriented strategy to pursue its development.

In 2006, NOVOPAC was acquired by a private equity firm, Zaweb AG in Aarau, which appointed a new CEO, Mr Pierre Flury. Under his leadership, NOVOPAC intensifies its "solutions" strategy and strengthens the company's positioning as a true customer-oriented packaging partner.

In 2007, a fire in a nearby warehouse contaminated NOVOPAC's entire stock, rendering it unfit for use. Within a few months, thanks to its resilience, flexibility and the strength of its partnerships, the entire stock was renewed with minimum inconvenience to customers.

Anticipating growing needs and food safety legislation, NOVOPAC acquired BRC/IOP certification in 2007, thus strengthening its position as a specialist in food packaging.

2010's - Customization

As customers seek to differentiate themselves and offer an increasingly integrated customer experience, NOVOPAC is focusing more intensely on branded packaging. The slogan "Innovative Brand Packaging" reinforces the company's positioning in the domestic market and underlines the NOVOPAC logo. This step marks a new impetus for the company, highlighting its technical skills in packaging execution, printing and finishing.

In 2012, Novopac returned to Fribourg hands when Pierre Flury, CEO at the time, acquired the company's entire share capital. He quickly introduces Full Pack Service, offering customers a platform encompassing not only packaging development and production, but also a high-performance logistics platform. At the same time, the company digitizes a large part of its internal processes, centralizing all its operations at the Givisiez site for more precise and efficient customer service. It also acquires ISO 22000 and FSC® certification.

2020's - The new generation

The company's long-term vision and mission motivate the new generation. At the end of 2020, Pierre Flury hands over the company to his children Patrick and Laetitia Flury, who take over the entire share capital and management of the company.

With solid fundamentals and a varied national customer base, NOVOPAC is stepping up its service-solution positioning and developing its integrated offering, comprising the NovoGraphic, NovoPackager, NovoLogistics and NovoCopac units, for the fresh food and food service sectors, as well as for Boutiques and Retail.
